NICK'S NOTES- Only one batch ever made of these - very rare. Some featuring silver Hematite!
Iolite, also known as Water Sapphire or Cordierite, is a non-gemmy variety found in large bodies, polished by world-class lapidaries in South Africa. Exceptionally rare, only a few kilograms of this material become available. It is highly collectible and known for its striking dark blue color, which can appear almost black in low light. The latest material from Northern Cape showcases bright blue streaks reminiscent of labradorite, adding to its uniqueness.
Cordierite occurs in a wide range of colors, including grey, blue, blue-violet, greenish, yellowish-brown, and colorless. Under transmitted light, it often displays a light blue hue. The name "Iolite" comes from the Greek word for violet, while its pleochroism earned it the name "Dichroite," meaning "two-colored rock."
